PICNIC MEETING
HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION OF TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP

August 8, 2012
Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area, Blakeslee, Pa.

Speaker: Anne Sincavage, “Open Space in Tobyhanna Township”

On August 8, the HATT membership and their family and friends gathered at the Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area in Blakeslee to enjoy what we hope will be our first annual picnic. Some 65 gathered to enjoy the warm weather and take a walk on the trails leading to a wonderful small falls, with rest benches along the path.

People brought salads, desserts, summer vegetables, while fresh rainbow and brown trout sizzled on the charcoal grill, along with traditional hot dogs. The fish was all locally caught in our Tobyhanna Creek and other nearby streams.

Our speaker was Annie Sincavage, who made a presentation on what Tobyhanna Township is doing to continue their efforts to provide more open space venues. She also presented the work that Monroe County is doing with open space.

She brought two volunteers; Tom Eisler and Steve Micenec who are part of the Top of the Mountain Open Space Committee (and HATT members). They escorted people to the falls and also talked with members about the work they do to maintain the Austin Blakeslee Natural Area (to include trash pick up, portable toilets, trails markings, path improvements, etc).

In the middle of the picnic Channel 13 came to interview and show the mission of HATT and how they were enjoying the day. It was shown during the local news that evening.

Think this will be an annual event.

Respectfully submitted,
Scarlett Rehrig, Vice-President
